We are a national non-profit organisation based in Leicester. Our aim is promoting prevention and building awareness of cancers that are deadly, affecting thousands of people in the UK each year, and yet are somehow the prevention measures are less known to the public.
Our organisation focuses on reducing the risk of cancer among the local community through increasing awareness of symptoms and risk factors, and promoting healthy eating and exercise. We provide information using an alternative approach, in a friendly, supportive environment.
Cells are the basic units that make up the human body. Usually, when cells get too old or damaged, they die. Then new cells take their place.
All cancers start when the DNA in a cell becomes damaged. When enough damage has occurred, the cell starts to divide in an uncontrolled way, forming a group of cells, which is known as a tumour.
A tumour can be cancerous or benign:
A cancerous tumour is malignant, meaning it can grow and spread to other parts of the body.
A benign tumour means the tumour can grow but will not spread
Our vision is to reduce incidence, suffering and deaths associated with cancer.
Our mission is saving lives across all populations through cancer prevention and early detection.
After finding out you have cancer, you may feel shocked, upset, anxious or confused.
